Mow Cop Killer Mile

The next race for the squad will be the Mow Cop Killer Mile an uphill road mile up Mow Cop on the 7th May, this race has seen some great battles over the years between some of the best track and cross country athletes in the UK.

The record has been held by Roger Hackney in 6.17 who finished 5th in the 1987 World Championship 3,000 metres steeplechase after that Andy Wilton of Staffs Moorlands who represented GB at the World Cross lowered it to 6.14 in 1990 but the record still stands to our very own Bashir Hussain who climbed the Cop in 1991 in an amazing 6 minutes 12 seconds.

Last year Steve Vernon pushed himself to within 6 seconds of Bashir’s record and will attempt it again this year.

Shireen Barbour of Reading holds the women’s record of 7.54 set in 1992.

The race has races for all ages and abilities under-11/18s club runners, adult races 18 to 40-year-olds and Vets races.

The first race starts at 6.10pm, you can enter on the night but it is advised that you pre enter, there are forms in the Club House.
