The Thompson Brothers Offerton 10K was held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 1st July and was a great success. There was an excellent turnout of over 200 runners on a very hot evening. As usual, we had overwhemingly positive feedback about the excellent organisation and friendly and supportive marshals. Many runners particularly appreciated the opportunity to grab a drink of water at frequent intervals.

Ben Fish from Blackburn Harriers was the first man to cross the line, in 31:31. Stockport's Stephen McLeon was second in 34:59. First lady was Olivia Walwyn from Altrincham and District AC in 36:30. Stockport Harriers took both the men's and ladies' team prizes.

Stockport runners shone in other categories too. Kerrie Wood was second woman overall with a time of 42:01. Yvonne Williams was first in the F35 category in 44:21 & Sarah Aylmer was first F45 in 43:25. In the M40 category, Peter Rogers was second in 37:19 and Tom McNally third in 38:49. John Parrott was second in the M50 category in 40:50 and David Mellor third in 41:28. Stockport Harriers juniors were also on good form - Ruth Jenyon was first female junior and third woman overall in 42:25 and Michael Eaton first male junior in 48:49.

The Young Athletes' Mile was run on the same evening and was also a great success. Donnacha Maguire was first boy in 06:12 and Mollie Williams was first girl in 06:22.

A special mention should go to Brian Holland, a longstanding supporter of Stockport Harriers, who brought along ten members of his extended family to run on the night to support Alzheimer's Research. The family ran in memory of Brian's mother, Freda Holland, who sadly died of Alzheimer's earlier this year. Well done to everyone involved.

Watch out for news of Saturday morning Parkruns, starting at the Stockport Harriers’ track in Woodbank Park this August - free, timed 5K runs every week.
