There were some fantastic performances from Stockport Harriers at this year’s Virgin London Marathon, although many found the hot weather made the 26.2 miles even more of a challenge than usual.
First man home for Stockport was James Scott-Buccleuch in 2:33:04 (coming 69th in his category) and first woman was Sarah Lomas in 2:58:55 (28th in her category).
A new club record was set by Kerrie Wood-Doyle, knocking 30 minutes off the previous FV45 record with a finishing time of 3:00:21 (3rd in her category).
Stockport’s highest-profile runners this year were Lee Barratt and Sean Whewell, who dressed as Prince William and Kate Middleton to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. The happy couple enjoyed widespread media attention and made the front page of The Guardian the following day.
Also running for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, Tony Audenshaw just missed out on setting a new record for the world’s fastest fairy.
