Elle Bakers continued her final preparations for the track with a record breaking run at the Christleton 5k road race winning in a new club record of 16 minutes 10 seconds, taking eighteen seconds of the previous best set by Sarah Bouchard back in 2005 in California.
This wasn’t California but the humid conditions on Friday night made it near perfect conditions for the runners on the two lap loop around the best kept village of Cheshire.
Club track international Elle won the race from Hallamshire Harriers Lizzie Adams after setting a blistering pace of 3 minutes 5 second for the first kilometre to finish well clear for 1st lady and 20th overall.
In the men’s race James Scott-Buccleuch showed no signs of marathon fatigue and a 3k track race on the Tuesday evening ran another best to finish 4th in 15-30 in front of Jamie Loxam 10th in 15-42 and Andy Nixon 12th on 15-47.
Staffs University student Dean Matkin 26th 16.20 with Paul Payne 16.39, Richard Marlton 16.52, James Corden 17.08, Pete Rogers 17.19 and Phil Burns 17.20.
Trafford Grand Prix
Elle will be turning her attention to the track and opens her season at the Trafford Grand Prix next Tuesday in the 3,000 metres.
Chelsea Jarvis, the UKAthletics ranked number one under-15 800 metre runner last season, moves up to the under-17 women’s age group and also has her first race of the season in the longer distance 1,500 metre.
