Gold for Alexis at Sprint Duathlon World Championships

Report: Julie Fairclough -

Alexis Dinsmoor, a keen fell runner who trains in Maureen’s and Julie’s group, has kept quiet over the last few months about this event which she qualified for in the Dambuster Duathlon, Leicester in April.

She has been cycling many miles to improve her confidence and speed on the bike. Also she has been completing early morning “brick” sessions coached by Julie which means cycling then jumping off the bike going straight into a fast race paced run. Anyone who has ever tried this will know the “jelly” legs feeling! Despite this, Alexis diligently followed the training plan, never giving up.

After all this hard work and training, Alexis competed in the ITU Sprint Duathlon World Championships in Gijon, Spain at the weekend. The conditions were ideal for Alexis, she was victorious in her age group plus stormed ahead of many athletes in the younger age groups 55-59, 50-55 and 45-59.
