Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships

Report: Pete Torrence -

On the first Saturday of 2012 Stockport Harriers held the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships at Woodbank Park over a very muddy and hilly course and it turned out to be a great day for the junior girls section with a number of good results.

In the first girls' race of the day the Harriers turned out 13 athletes to compete over the 2,400 metre course and had great team display benefiting from the training over the Christmas holidays.

Two of the girls took up the first two places with Lucy Donaghy taking 1st place in 9-25 and followed home by Katy Whiteoak in 2nd place in 9-35 both making the Greater Manchester team for the Inter Counties Championships in March, next home was Juliet Downs in 10-20 in 11th place to give the Harriers girls the 1st team award.

Also running well were Jack Morris winning the Under-20s' and Andy Nixon second in the Senior Men's race.
