David Tivey Memorial Mile and Sprint Races

Competitors, family and friends who supported the David Tivey Memorial Mile and Sprint races at Woodbank Park Track on Saturday 7th July 2012 were rewarded with sunshine and impressive mile and sprint performances from the local leading athletes.

Stockport’s Rory Evans an Olympic trialist ran a scorching 11.1 seconds for the 100 metre sprint and a 23.4 seconds in the 200 metres sprint.

Hannah Arnold also made it a Stockport double in the ladies' sprints storming to the tape in a 13.6 seconds for the 100 metres and 28.2 seconds for the 200 metres.

Rosa Chrystie-Lowe took the girls under-17 mile prize with a fine 5-55. The under-17 boys mile race was won by Jay Hornby in 5-15.

In the ladies' mile event Stockport’s over 35 veteran Louise Rudd lapped the field with a swift 5-13.

Bashir Hussain coached Mathew Clowes covered the men’s mile in 4-14 narrowly missing out on the £100 bonus prize for a sub-4 minute mile.

Courageous performances from Stockport’s Wheelchair athletes saw Kirsty Grange covering the 200 metres in 42 seconds with men’s wheelchair mile going to Stuart Bloor in 4 minutes 3 seconds.

Event organiser and Olympic Torchbearer Brian Leigh arranged for anyone wishing to have a photograph taken with the Olympic Torch could do so. This proved a popular feature of the day and raised £215 for St Anns Hospice.
