Brian Leigh honoured at the Pride in the Heatons & Reddish Award

At Stockport Council’s "Pride in the Heatons & Reddish Award 2012" held at Stockport Town Hall on October 1st 2012 Brian Leigh received the award for his contribution to Sport.

Since being honoured as a 2012 Olympic Torchbearer in June Brian has made himself and the Olympic torch available to his social circle, schools and community groups, who wish to have their photograph taken with the Olympic torch.

Monies raised and donated to local charities are as follows:

  • Prior to his Olympic Torch Relay leg in Stockport Brian raised £300 for the Seashell Trust.
  • Brian staged the David Tivey Memorial Mile and Sprint Races at Woodbank Park where the torch raised £210 for St Anne’s Hospice.
  • Members of Reddish & District Cage Bird Society donated £161 for the Duchenne Disease (this will be Brian’s nominated Charity for the next 12 months ).
  • A visit to Stockport Market raised £115 for Stockport Harriers Club House Development Fund.
  • £45 was raised for Manchester Harriers & AC at their junior presentation night.

The following schools and community groups have been visited with the Olympic Torch: Abingdon Primary, St Elizabeth’s Primary, St Mary’s Primar, Whitehill Primary, Vernon Primary, Georgie Porgies Nursery, Wright Robinson College, Abbey Hey Netball Team, South Reddish Air Cadets, Grange Care Home Reddish .
