Schools Cross Country League Race 1 (updated)

Report: John Wharf -

I must apologise for getting the race times wrong in the Boys’ Years 5-6 race. I have updated the results accordingly.

Girls Years 3-4

Two newcomers to the league, Libby Robinson of Gee Cross Holly Trinity and Darcey Breen of Stockport Grammar finished 1st and 2nd, with Sofia Kivesey of St Simon’s in 3rd place, continuing her steadily improving performance she displayed throughout last year’s league.

Boys Years 3-4

Thomas Boyd of Dean Valley continued his good performance in last year’s league by finishing 1st, well clear of newcomer Will Kershaw of Cale Green (2nd) and Bow Hornby of Norbury Hall (3rd). Two of the boys were recorded as finishing 61st, although the recorded times suggest that the two were separated by 5 seconds. I have allocated both the same time lacking further information.

Girls Years 5-6

Chloe Rodgers of St Joseph’s stepped up a gear in her final year in the event to take 1st place. Evie Wild of High Lane, who took 2nd place in the league last year finished 2nd and Daisy Keigher of Stockport Grammar, who won last year’s Girls’ Year 3-4 League, finished 3rd.

Boys Years 5-6

Owen McPherson of St Christopher’s, who finished 4th in last year’s league, claimed top spot, with the winner of last year’s Boys’ Year 3-4 League, Alec McLachlan of Norbury Hall, finishing 2nd. Fares Ibrahim, who was 6th in last year’s league came 3rd.

I would to thank and congratulate all the children who took part in the races, their managers, family and friends for supporting them, St John Ambulance for tending to those needing medical attention and members and supporters of Stockport Harriers who helped to put on a successful event.

Appeal for Volunteers

We are appealing for volunteers to go on a volunteers’ rota for our annual Cross Country League for primary school children. The roles that our volunteers fulfil are varied: marshalling, timekeeping using the Park Run Timer, handing out tokens to runners denoting finishing position, helping to set up and take down the course markers, serving refreshments in the tuck shop, helping on the administration desk and doing public announcements.

We have had one event this season and have five further events:

  • 5 October 2013
  • 2 November 2013
  • 30 November 2013
  • 18 January 2014
  • 15 February 2014

There are 4 races per event starting at 10:30 and finishing around 12:00. Marshals need to be available from 10:15 and others, excluding course setters, from 09:45. Course setting is done before the Park Run takes place.
