Our wheelchair racing squad has benefitted from two great fundraising awards.
Sport England has awarded Stockport Wheelchair Racing a fantastic £9750 to purchase new equipment. The award is part of Sport England’s ‘Get Equipped’ initiative, designed to build on the success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which awards funds from the National Lottery. The money will be used to purchase racing wheelchairs and spare parts, which will open up opportunities for disabled people in Stockport to try wheelchair racing for the first time.
Another significant boost to our wheelchair racing squad’s fundraising has come from Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund, which has awarded £2795.
Coaches Rick Hoskins and Dave Ambler are delighted with the awards. The group has developed from just one athlete five years ago to ten, currently training three times per week. With the much-needed new equipment, the squad can now provide improved training opportunities and promote wheelchair racing across Stockport and beyond to find the next generation of Paralympians.
Stockport Wheelchair Racing has also submitted an application for official charity status with the Charity Commission.
