Stockport Boys' Squad – cross country season report

Report: Mike Doyle -

Just wanted to say thanks to all of the boys that contributed to a fantastic cross country season.

Without exception, you should all be proud of your efforts.

Collectively, the under-11s and under-13s teams picked up silver and gold medals, respectively, in the Manchester Area Cross Country League.

The under-11s team contained a number of boys that were experiencing their first taste of the delights of ploughing through muddy fields in the freezing cold.

Well done Alec, Edward, Fares, Jacob, Lewis and Max.

The under-13s is a category open to year 7s and 8s, however, our team of six were all from the younger age group and will 'enjoy' another year in this category. In spite of this disadvantage, the boys also picked up silver medals in the Greater Manchester Cross County Championships.

Well done Ben, Drew, Dylan, Fabio, Flynn and Joe.

Individually, there have been many highlights:

Alec McLachlan won the Stockport Schools' Cross Country series. Lewis Poole-Price also won his first race in the final event of the series and finished second overall. Fares Ibrahim and Edward Corden also did well in the series, finishing in 5th and 7th place, respectively.

Ben Batho and Flynn Walsh have both been selected to represent Greater Manchester at the Inter Counties event in Birmingham. Fabio Carrossi, in spite of being the youngest athlete in the county championships, also made the initial short list.

Finally, many thanks for the continued support of parents in ensuring that the season remained enjoyable as well as successful.

Mike and Kerrie
