Buxworth 5
Over twenty-five Stockport Harriers runners took part in last Thursday's Buxworth 5m race, twenty of whom were contesting for points in our inaugural Race Series Championship.
As the 143 starters made their way to the Navigation Inn to finalise their entry and collect race numbers, rain, wind and cool conditions threatened to make it a tougher race than usual.
However, our northern climate couldn't hold off these tough group of committed, yellow vested champions and by the time the race had concluded eight PB's had been posted!
Although, after a relatively gentle first half a mile, the sight of a long, long, long ascent so early in proceedings was met with stony silence and for many the thought of PB was the last thing on their mind.
At least the rain held off!
With steely resilience, the hills were traversed in great time and one by one the Harriers runners sped past the finishing line amid cheers from their fellow competitors.
With such a great race behind them, all that was left was to enjoy a celebratory refreshment in the Navigation Inn and my understanding was that a swarm of yellow voices cheered loudest throughout proceedings as both Claire MacNeill (V35) and Dave Chadderton (V65) won their categories.
Having been unable to attend recent events due to work commitments in London, the social side of the Race Series is proving very popular and one I must investigate more fully next time around!

Remember it is your top 8 results that count so it will start to get interesting over the coming months. We are still deciding on final categories but will definitely have a men’s winner and a ladies winner. Just need to think through vet's categories.
