Harrier boys move nearer to promotion

Report: First published Stockport Express -

A TERRIFIC performance by Stockport Harriers' boys' team all but secured promotion in the McDonald's Young Athletics League.

After Sunday's victory at Grimsby, a solid performance in the final fixture at Cudworth on July 22 should be enough to advance up the league ladder.

The sprinters did particularly well with sprint doubles being the order of the day. Daniel Goux took the under-13 100m and 200m in 13.4s and 27.5s.

New recruit Neil Stevens took the under-15 A 100m in 12.2s, with Joe Frost winning the B 100m and 200m in 12.4s and 26.2s.

Scott Caine warmed up for next week's English Schools Meeting in Exeter by winning the under-17 boys 100m and 200m in 11.6s and 23.4s.

Under-17 Jonathon Rogers dropped down in distance to win the 1,500m in a very useful 4.36.6.

Team manager Mike McCormack said: "I was pleased with the result and feel the team is progressing well".

However, new members are still needed, especially at under-17 level.

If any youngsters enjoy athletics and would like to be considered for the team, they should go to Woodbank Park at 7pm on a Tuesday or Thursday evening.
