Nine races have now been completed and with eight more races coming up before the last race, Wilmslow Half Marathon, the competition is hotting up.
Phil Burns, who was second in the series last year, is currently leading the field with 60 points, closely followed by two times winner, Iain Murdoch and Tom Peers, who both have 55 points. Steve Humphries, Jack Morris and Steve Shaughnessy are just behind with 50 points and still in contention for the cash prizes are James Corden, Rob Taylor, Paul Corner, Ian Crabtree and Darren Donald with 35 points.
In the women's series, Jenny Pickard is leading the field with 60 points but she has last year's winner, Rebecca Livsey, Ruth Murdoch and Maureen Wilkins snapping at her heels with 50 points. However, Helen Todd and Melanie Mather have 40 points so not far behind and Imogen Nutter and Lindsay Crombleholme, with 35 points, could still win the series.
Remember you only have to compete in the races in the Winter Race Series to win points and cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female with the highest number of points. There are still 115 points available in the remaining races and extra points are awarded for taking part in the Manchester Area XC League and 10 extra points if you take part in the National XC Champs, so at the moment anyone could win.
The full list of races is on the notice board in the clubhouse together with the list of people who have competed in the series so far and their points score.
