Consterdine holds her own

Stockport Harriers' track and field teams came up against some stiff opposition in the North of England Knockout Cup finals in Barnsley against established internationals.

In the ladies' event, Victoria Consterdine was fifth in a star-studded 100m hurdles race with a very fast 15.69 seconds.

Kerry Wood worked steadily through the field to finish second in both the 3000m (10.17.52) and 1500m (4.52.43). The ladies' relay team, running together for the first time, finished with a creditable 51.60 seconds in the 4x100m relay.

In the men's plate, Scott Caine achieved a sprint doubles against strong opposition. Scott had more than half a second to spare in the 200m running 22.99s.

Ged Cudahey showed he is steadily returning to form by finishing second in the steeplechase in ten minutes. Paul Shannon, 17, made his debut over 5,000m and ran an encouraging 16.44.

Joe Chambers finished a close third over 1,500m.
