McLoughlin maintains unbeaten record

Stockport Harriers continued their success with seven individual wins at the Greater Manchester Track and Field Championships at Trafford AC.

Ellie McLoughlin led a clean sweep in the girls' under-15 800m final and remains unbeaten over three years at the championships.

She finished in two mins, 23 secs - ahead of team-mates Claire McMurdock (2.30) and Rhea Fallows (2.35) who both claimed personal bests.

Laura Potter recorded 2.40 in her heat of the 800m.

Jenna Paton led from the front in the girls' u15 1500m final and was a clear winner in 5.02.

Lois Brooks also decided to front run her way round in the girls' u17 800m final, winning in 2.16. Carly Davies was just edged out of the medals in fourth but gained a pb of 2.25.

Brooks also won silver in the 300m in a new best time of 41.88.

Lucy McLoughlin kept the u13 girls' 800m gold medal in the family as she followed her sister Ellie's lead by storming home to win by more than six seconds in 2.28.

There was a silver for Sarah Wiblin in the u17 1,500m in 5.03 while Samantha Riley had to settle for the same colour in the u15 javelin final with a throw of 21.93m

Ruth Jenyon also took silver in the u13 1,200m with a time of 4.11.

In the boys' championships, Scott Cain took gold in the 100m and 200m in 11.34 and 22.74 while Jonathon Walsh carried on his winning ways in the u15 800m, winning in a new best of 2.13.

David Hicketts was a bronze medal winner in a close 1,500m.

Under-13 sprinter Colin Doodson had a busy day, coming sixth in the 100m in 15.10 and seventh in the 200m in 32.33.

Other good performances came from Scott Boothby, who was fourth in the u17 800m boys' heat in 2.11, Matt Hallinen - 2.42 in the boys' u13 800m - and a silver for Paul Shannon in the u20 steeplechase.

A large number of Harriers ran in the Vanessa Chapel Memorial Fell Race at Disley with runners Steve Haylock and Michela Stepto winning the men's veteran 40 and women's 35 categories.

Frank Reily was first vet 55 in the men's race which was won by Salford's Malc Fowler.

Stuart Cameron won the long jump (4.35m) and 1,500m (5.04) in the under-13 section of the Derbyshire County Championships.

On Saturday (May 18), Steve Vernon opens up his track season at the international track meeting held in Loughborough in the men's open 1500m while on Sunday, the junior teams compete in the National Young Athletes Leagues.
