Sale Festive 5

Report: Phil McCann

The Sale Festive 5 for many of the Stockport Harriers’ ladies saw them run their final race of the year. Jenny Knass had still not quite recovered from her injury sustained at the London Marathon this year, decided to follow up with her run at the Stockport 10 two weeks earlier to try a little speed work in this 5 miler.

The winning lady was in form Pauline Powell from Blackburn in 27-54 with Jenny Knass finishing 10th lady and 1st lady Harrier in 31-03. Following up were Kerrie Wood 14th lady/1st V40 in 31-57 and Sarah Lomas 15th lady in 31-58 battled together with this being Sarah's first 5 miler.

Next was Liz Turton finishing off the Year to finish in 35-58 and Helen Todd was not giving up without a fight finishing in 37-29.

Following up with her first race for nearly 2 months saw Debra McCann finish in 39-23 and gave me a target to aim for to beat my wife again! However to try and get close to our Chairman Mike Durcan was a more realistic target, there was an additional problem with Janet Booker overtaking me early on. I had to use all my race tactics and made my come back overtaking Janet with 200m to go! finishing 41-51 only 1 minute behind Mike with the target being 2 minutes. Janet followed home feeling robbed of her first victory over me, her time 42-08 maybe next time. Elaine Devine and Sue Howard enjoyed their Christmas run wearing antlers and all to finish together in 52-18.
