Great Winter Run Edinburgh

Report: Phil McCann -

Once again Toni McIntosh continues in fantastic form first at the Great Winter Run at Edinburgh. While Steve Vernon and Ellie Baker were running superbly in the elite fields Toni on the last minute was able to get a place in the mass field over the 5k distance.

Although the conditions were at times atrocious with gale force winds blowing down the start gantry and the km markers along the mass route early on it wasn't the best of days. Still Toni battled on and gave a fantastic performance finishing 1st lady and 11th overall from a field of 1884 with a time of 18-11 two and a half minutes ahead of the 2nd place woman.

On this performance she would have finished in the top 12 of the elite women's field. Toni said afterwards that although the conditions at time were a little rough it was a great workout and was thankful that those previous little injury niggles were behind her.

Toni continued with her preparation in this 10k again battling against the elements. The course mostly on roads with a little on trails she found it a little muddy underfoot. Still she again proved to much for the opposition with a fine victory winning again in 35-20 and 7th overall.

Toni will have another cross country race next week then aims to ease back for a week before building up towards the Edinburgh Marathon in May. Toni will be aiming to get down for the Northern 6 stage road relays in April.
