A group of young athletes had a good day out at the Cutler Relays in Sheffield where they took on teams from South Yorkshire in a three runner relay race at Graves Park in south Sheffield.
The day started out cold and windy but it did not put the teams off, in the first race of the day the under-11 girls team lined-up with all the other teams. First leg runners Eliza Brackenridge Jones, Emily Hughes and Grace Garner took the race straight from the gun taking the lead with the others just behind over a hilly 1,500 metre course, at the change over the teams came in first, second and fourth.
On the second leg Emma Donaghy, Francesca Carosi and Jasmine Hannon kept the tempo up and the teams had the first three places to hand over to the third leg runners Lucy Donaghy, Gemma Scoble and Katy Whiteoak who had a race between themselves to the line bringing the three teams in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
To show how well the girl ran we had eight out of top ten fastest times with the top six being Stockport Harriers.
The under-13 girls raced over a 1,800 metre hilly course and showed what good form they are in with great legs for Sophie Williams handing over to the improving Alice Hughes who then kept the team in touch with the leader to hand over to Mollie Williams who took the team into third spot just behind the 1st and 2nd teams with Mollie taking fastest leg overall.
A quote from coaches Donna and Pete “We asked for attitude and got a bucket full from all the girls”.
