Asics Alsager 5

Club track international Elle Baker was back in action after 22 months absence with a confidence boosting performance at the Asics Alsager 5 miles road race.

Elle faced stiff opposition against Olympic Games steeplechaser Hattie Dean who forced the pace early on along with Lily Partridge of Aldershot Farnham.

The three were well clear after at the first mile of 5.18 in very blustery conditions that affected the finishing times on the day.

By the finish Dean of Hallamshire Harriers had a healthy lead on the chasing pair winning in 27.34 from Partridge in 2nd on 27.58 followed closely by Elle in 28.12. Dean Matkin who was with Elle most of the way outsprinted her for 28.10 the next three harriers home were Phil Burns in 28.29 closely followed by Mike Shaw 29.31 and Jenny Knass 29.36 for 7th lady.

This coming Friday Alex O'Gorman takes to the roads in Armagh Northern Ireland in an international 5km.

Alex who finished 10th at last weekend’s Northern Cross Country Championships will be representing the North of England.
