The club’s ladies travelled to Birmingham to contest the Women’s National 6 Stage Road Relays held in bright sunshine on the classic road relays course of Sutton Coldfield which over the years has been the forerunner to the track season.
Leading the team out on leg 1 Elle Baker came home in 3rd place from International Lauren Howarth in 15.40 and World Cross 25th placed international Hattie Dean in 16.10 with Elle on 16.25 making 5th fastest of the day and handing over to Carla Stansfield who made the trip over from Hull worthwhile with a good run in 7th and 18.32.
Team captain Gill Doolan followed this with a fine run in her first race on the course in 20.57 and Jenny Knass was able to make up 4 places and 9th fastest on leg 4 in 18.07. Tri athlete specialist Maureen Wilkins ran well on leg 5 coming home in 22.19 and Helen Todd running the last stage in 22.11 and the team finishing in a respectable 25th out of 47 teams.
Women’s team manager for the day Steve Vernon was pleased with the effort put in by the ladies who had made the trip to represent the club at the premier domestic road race fixture of the season.
GB Marathon runner Peter Riley will be in charge of the men’s Road relays teams for the Northern 6 stage and 12 stage teams.
