Two new club records were set at the British Milers Club Nike Grand Prix on Saturday night at Solihull, Birmingham 15-year-old Chelsea Jarvis fresh from her bronze at the English Schools Inter-girls 800 metre championships clinched victoy in the women’s 800 metres in a time of 2-08.58 coming through with a kick in the final 80 metres to beat Senior women Ejiro Okoro of Birchfield and Rachel Thompson of Liverpool.
In the Senior Women’s A-race Northern 1,500 metre champion Elle Baker improved by five seconds to run 4-20.6 seconds to set a new senior women’s 1,500 metres club record.
UKA under-23 5,000 metre champion Ross Millington stepped down in distance to 1,500 metres to record a nippy 3-44 in a final tune-up for next weekend’s under-23 European Championships in Ostrava where Ross will represent Great Britain in the 5,000 metres.
European Mountain Championships, Bursa Turkey
National cross country champion Steve Vernon competed for Great Britain at the European Uphill Mountain Running Championships in Bursa, Turkey on Sunday.
In over 30°C heat the athletes had the grueling test of a 1,245 metre uphill climb over a 12km distance Steve finished in a creditable 13th place and the GB team were 5th out of over 27 nations.
