Impressive weekend for the Harriers

Sprinter Rory Evans had a really impressive run at the Loughborough international on Sunday, he finished 4th in the Senior men's A-race in a new personal best and club record in 47.53.

Over at SportCity on Saturday evening athletes gathered for the first of the British Milers Club's Grand Prix with the added incentive for athletes to gain Olympic and European qualifying times.

Chelsea Jarvis ran in the women's B-race that had an international field going through the first lap in 62 seconds the early pace was set by Danish athlete Daymar Faester and Ireland's Claire McSweeney and Lisa Fosling of Sweden. Chelsea bided her time to come through in the final third of the race holding Faester and Fosling off to snatch third place behind Rebbecca Linney and Irish international McSweeney for a season's best of 2-09.83.

The women's 5,000 metres A-race had a stella cast of athletes chasing Olympic and personal best times, runaway winner was Olympian Jo Pavey who secured the Olympic A standard of 15-14, in her wake Elle Baker finshed strong in 7th place with a personal best of 15-49.

In the men's 5,000 metres A-race Pat Martin also had an international field where American Mohammed Trafeh ran away from the field to win in 13.39, Pat battled with Finland's Jakko Hamserg and Jakob Hannibal to finish behind the pair to set a new personal best of 14-05.

Andy Nixon also ran a personal best of 14-37 and Jack Morris in 15-29.

Stuart Cameron also improved his 800m time with a second place and 1-53.88.

Also on Saturday Steve Vernon won the UKA Inter-counties fell race at Shining Tor on Saturday, beating Chris Brown and Andy Jones by well over a minute and a half.

On the roads of Christleton, near Chester on Friday there was a win for Mike Sawrey in 15-07, closely followed by Jamie Loxam in a personal best of 15-22 and James Buccleuch 15.39. Louise Rudd improved her 5k time to 17-59 and new V35 club record.
