Expectations were high at this year’s English National cross country relay championships held at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield after last year’s emphatic victory for the Harriers senior men.

This year the under-17 women took pride of place for the club with a convincing victory over the Aldershot & Farnham team who are the kingpins of National Cross Relay running have won more team titles than Real Madrid have won European titles over the years in fact probably double that.

The Harriers' trio of Liz Aspley, Chelsea Jarvis and Mollie Williams strode to victory and Mollie had a convincing thirty seconds lead over Aldershot as she crossed the winning tape.

The Harriers' senior women’s team produced there highest ever position at the championships finishing within an inch of Aldershot Farnham in fourth place.

Jess Coulson who had raced to second at the Great South 10 miler only last week came home third on leg 1 handing over to Louise Rudd who kept the team in the chase on leg 2 and Elle Baker bringing the team home in 4th.

The men’s team of Steve Vernon, Andy Nixon, Alex O'Gorman and Patrick Martin secured bronze medal in a tight three way battle between Belgrave Harriers and Leeds City. Steve Vernon ran the fastest overall leg of the day in 15-17 with Patrick Martin on 15-20 for third fastest.

The senior squad prepare for the European trial in three weeks time at Liverpool’s Sefton Park, places up for grabs in the Great Britain squad for the European Cross Country Championships in Budapest on December 9th.
