Greater Manchester Championships

The Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships where held at Woodbank Park last Saturday over a very muddy and demanding course on a day that turned out dry and bright and the Harriers where out in force and it turn a great day out for the junior girls section with a number being selected to run for Greater Manchester team at the intercounties in BIrmingham in March.

The first race the under-13 girls saw ten athletes all have a great runs over a 3km course being lead home by Rebecca Jones in 8th place followed by Georgia Bourke in 10th and Naomi Sinclair in 14th place to take 4th team place.

The next race saw the under-15 girls tackle a 4km course and they did the Harriers proud with great runs from Katy Whiteoak taking 1st place by well over a minute from second place followed by Juliet Downs in 4th and Chloe Lockett in 5th to take the 1st team place.

To follow up the under-17 girls race got even better over a 5km course in form Mollie Williams took 1st place followed by Elizabeth Apsley taking 2nd place and Ellen Downs 5th took 1st team place then Rosa Chrystie lowe 7th, Megan Ashelby 8th and Sophie Williams 13th place took 3rd team award.

The next race saw the under-20 ladies cover the same 5km course and Nicola Berry ran a great race to take 3rd spot behind winner Shannon Johnson.
