If anyone watched the Intercounties at Crofton Park, Birmingham on Sky TV last Saturday they would have seen a young Stockport athlete coming of age, the commentator could not find her name in the programme but when they did finally find her name we heared it over and over.
That athlete's name was Katy Whiteoak and she was having the race of her life to take the silver medal in the under-15 girl 4k race just behind winner Harriet Knowles-Jones.
The Harriers had nine junior girls running for the Greater Manchester team over four age groups with every one having a great run over the very muddy course.
The under-13 girls saw Rebecca Jones have a great run to finish in 74th place followed home by Georgia Bourke in 164th, and in the under-15 girls Juliet Downs again showing her improvment finished in 116th with Chloe Lockett just behind in 204th.
The under-17 women's race over 5k again saw a great race with Mollie Williams in 28th, Elizabeth Apsley just behind in 49th and Ellen Downs in 106th place, the next race saw the u20 women over a 6k race with Nicola Berry having a great race to finish in 121st.
