Katy wins England vest

Report: Pete Torrence -

Katy Whiteoak topped off a great winter season with a win in the under-15 girls' English Schools Cross Country Championships at Catton Hall in Derbyshire and has been picked to represent England in the Home International in South Wales next weekend.

After a real downpour on the way to the race the weather turned quite mild but the damage had been done and again the course was very muddy.

The Harriers' girls section put out eleven athletes to represent Greater Manchester and Derbyshire with great performances from all the athletes.

In the Junior Girls' race once again it turned in to a close race over the 3km course but this time the honours went with Stockport's Katy Whiteoak who beat Katie McDonald of Surrey by six seconds, followed by Juliet Downs 59th then Lucy Donaghy 113th, Rebecca Jones 126th, Niamh Simpson 147th and Chloe Lockett 237th.

Next the Inter Girls' Mollie Williams again had a good race to finish 19th followed by Ellen Downs 170th and Elizabeth Apsley in 181st.

The Senior Girls' race over 4.4km the first home was Rosa Chrystie-Lowe in 106th place just a head of Nicola Berry in 123rd place.
