Strong showing at SYCAA Indoor GP Series Final

Report: Joe Frost -

The South Yorkshire Indoor Grand Prix Series can be counted as probably being the strongest Indoor Track & Field events in the UK for Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 Athletes over the winter, with more than one hundred and twenty Athletes taking part in some age groups and almost a thousand competitors taking part across the four events this winter. The competition attracts some of the UK’s strongest Athletes so it is great to see Stockport Athletes have such a strong showing.

The format is such that each Athlete competes in the four competitions between November and March, earning points for each run, jump or throw. At the end of the series each Athlete’s top two runs, top two jumps and top two throws points are added up to produce a ‘league table’ of performances. The final event and series presentation took place in the fantastic facilities at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport last weekend on Sunday 23rd March.

In the overall Grand Prix results there were some great performances from the Athletes who started the series competing for DASH and finished competing for Stockport! There was an excellent showing from the Under-15 Girls, with three Athletes making the Top 20 out of over a hundred Athletes. Katie Waterworth (Joe Frost) finished 8th despite missing two matches, Emily Jarad was 14th and Amy Jackson 20th. Olivia Moores finished 72nd despite competing in only two of the four meetings. Jack Doodson (David Jackson) had a great series in the Under-11 Boys, making the Top 20 in his first year in that age group while Holly Benson (Mike Frost) produced PB’s right across the winter to finish 14th of 77 Athletes in the Under-13 Girls competition. George Pavey finished 18th of 65 Athletes in a strong group of U13 Boys, while Isabel Moores was 42nd in the Under-11 Girls and Joe Pavey, who competed in only one match, finished 40th in the Under-15 Boys series.

Well Done to everyone who took part and the Coaches and Friends and Family who supported them. We look forward to seeing more of our Young Athletes taking part in this series, which is an excellent platform for development over the winter, next year.
