On 31st May an intrepid group of Stockport Harriers set out on a quest to beat the Sheriff in Nottinghamshire and all came back to tell the tale. Not your usual running club weekend event.......
The Outlaw Half is a Half Iron Man length triathlon, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run to finish off – phew. The weather wasn’t kind to the athletes as it was cold, wet and windy – not a great mix for riding your bike for 56 miles !! It dried up for the run but the wind stayed around making it hard going round the two lap course.
The scores on the doors are:
Athlete | Swim | Bike | Run | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|
Simon Phillips | 45-59 | 2-46-08 | 1-45-38 | 5-32-01 |
Sarah Leah | 39-05 | 3-32-36 | 2-09-59 | 6-28-41 |
Louise Harrison | 39-14 | 3-49-08 | 2-13-41 | 6-53-50 |
Nigel Harrison | 46-11 | 3-45-56 | 2-14-08 | 6-59-16 |
Gillian Doolan | 45-21 | 3-44-53 | 2-20-09 | 7-07-13 |
Steve Spriggs | 43-49 | 4-46-41 | 2-35-21 | 8-26-01 |
Simon, Lou, Nige & Gill were all attempting their first half iron man. Simon picked up 2nd place in his age cat and everyone else was well placed in their categories. Will they ever do another one – you’ll have to ask them when they are fully recovered. Sarah was a great support to these first timers (thanks Sarah) and ran a great race herself.
Steve was unlucky to have 2 flat tyres during the bike leg, which meant his time was not what he wanted, but like a true athlete he overcame this to ensure he finished.
Massive well done to everyone on a tough days competition.
