There were some excellent performances to take note of:
In the Triple Jump two Stockport Harriers, Emily Jarad and Katie Waterworth both jumped over the 11m barrier with 11.39m and 11.12m respectively which ranks them 2nd and 4th in the UK this year and 6th and 11th on the UK All Time Lists.
In the invitational 1500m Steeplechase events both the Men’s and Women’s races were won with UK Leading times for 2015. The Women’s race was won in 4:46.6 by Cardiff AAC’s Charlotte Arter and the Men’s Race by Jermaine Mays of Basingstoke in 4:13.8.
Stockport’s Rory Evans won the Men’s 100m in 10.6 before joining up with team-mates Danny Savin and Under 20’s Nick Barratt and Zac Johnson-Laketo equal the Club 4x100m Senior Mens Relay Record with 44.3 seconds, a time that has not been challenged since 1982. Stockport’s U20 Women’s team of Laura Pegler, Charlotte Ogden, Sophie Quinn and Ellie Staley, not to be outdone by the Boys, flew round the sprint relay in a Club Record time of 48.8 seconds.
Stockport Harriers Under 15 Girls’ relay squad of Holly Benson, Bethan Murray, Emily Jarad and Katie Waterworth faced a strong team of sprinters from a combined Sale Harriers and Manchester Harriers team but put together three slick changes to show how important the commitment to regular practice they’ve shown to practicing their baton skills this season has been with a win in 51.7 seconds.
In the Wheelchair Sprints there was a win for Stockport’s Andy Small in the 100m while team-mate Michael Taylor took first place in the 400m. Outstanding Under 11 Stockport Harrier Anya Waugh was the fastest of the female racers in the 100m and that title went to another Stockport Athlete, Cat Scott, in the 400m.
There was an incredibly close finish for the medals in the Under 11 Boys’ 75m, with Stockport Athletes Sam Ayre, Jack Doodson and Arthur Kennedy all running 11.5 seconds to take the medals. West Cheshire’s Abi Pawlett ran a swift 10.0 to win a high quality Under 13 Girls’ 75m race while the Men’s Javelin was won by Stockport’s James McKee with a 38.41m throw.
In the Men’s Mile the winner was Alisdair Campbell of Ronhill Cambuslang in 4:49.3 and the Women’s Mile Winner was Stockport’s own Lizzie Apsley in a time of 5:14.2.
