How are the mighty fallen: It was most unfortunate for junior Harrier Emily Misantoni who has coasted through every competition presented to her throughout the summer season at 800 metres to suffer a trip in the top race of the year at Bedford being the English junior track and field championships.
However, the Stockport athlete was made of sterner stuff than many a competitor who would have folded and she picked herself up, dusted herself down and chased the pack and overtook them again but unfortunately the trauma of a fall at 800 metres takes for a lot of determination and in the end she made the finish line in third spot which still got her onto the medal rostrum in a greatly respectable time of 2:16.
However no such unfortunate problems for club colleague Abigail Pawlett who's sprinting and hurdling exploits continue to impress and she secured the gold championship medal for the 100 metres sprint in a time of 12:04 at the Bedford stadium and then went in the sprint hurdles event the next day to record a runner's up spot with a huge personal best of 11:08 and missed out on the win by just 1/100ths of a second.
Katie Waterworth went in the under 17's long jump competition to record a useful third spot (5:55) and just managed to edge out fellow competitor and national indoor champion Pippa Earley of Kingston A.C. from the medals table by a mere one centimetre whilst a considerable distance from Bedford, Stockport's Amy Battle competed in the under 15 girls' pentathlon at the Yorkshire combined events championships to record a useful second overall finish and made it a personal best in the long jump discipline with a huge leap of faith to record 4.75 metres.
The local trail running season wrapped up with the third of the Bramhall runners Happy Valley food bank 5 kilometre events and team Stockport did not disappoint and took the first three male places consisting of George Cooke who subbed 20 minutes by just one second (19:59), Paul Brooks took the silver medal in 20:37 and first veteran's spot and Ian Murdoch completed the overall winning trio in a time of 20;59 and additionally was the second veteran to finish.
Stockport Ladies were to the fore as well with Ruth Sinclair taking off at a rate of knots from the Ladybrook public house to record a ninth overall position in 22:15 and followed in by Faye Jasmine Waterhouse who finished 18th in 23:36 which secured the first and second ladies' finishes for Stockport Harriers.
